Ultra-widefield Scanning laser ophthalmoscopy (SLO) is a method of examination of the eye.  It uses the technique of confocal laser scanning microscopy for diagnostic imaging of the retina. The digital high-definition view of the patient’s retina is called an optomap. The optomap image allows viewing of up to 200 internal degrees of the fundus in one image.  It is used as a screening tool for early detection of disease or abnormalities in the posterior segment of the eye in the context of preventative medicine and eye health and wellness. As a digital image, an optomap can be used to educate the patient, saved to compare from year to year or used in telemedicine applications.
