Optos Supports AOA’s National Save Your Vision Month
3/6/2008
MARLBOROUGH, MA, March 6, 2008 –In recognition of the American Optometric Association’s observance, National Save Your Vision Month, Optos, a leading medical technology company for the design, development, manufacturing, and marketing of retinal imaging devices, has launched a North American effort to raise awareness of the need to have annual eye exams that include the optomap® Retinal Exam. Over 800 Optos Partners will participate in this effort.
“The Optos Save Your Vision Month observance is a great opportunity to promote the importance of regular eye exams that include the optomap® Retinal Exam and to provide state-of-the-art technology like the Optos P200 to our patients,” stated Dr. Gregg Ossip, Ossip Optometry, Indianapolis, IN. “At Ossip Optometry, we are committed to providing thorough retinal evaluations for our patients and we are excited to have our practices support this important effort with the goals of raising the awareness of retinal health and imaging every patient during the month of March with the optomap® Retinal Exam. We have 11 of our locations supporting this effort.”
Early detection of eye health abnormalities may lead to earlier and safer treatments and in many cases can help prevent vision loss. Through regular screening and by capturing up to 82% of the patient’s retina, the optomap® Retinal Exam helps doctors diagnose conditions such as diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, and age-related macular degeneration, at an earlier stage of progression which enhances treatment regimes and patient outcomes.
“We are very pleased to support the American Optometric Association’s observance and encourage patients to be proactive about eye health during Save Your Vision Month,” said Tom Daniells, Vice President, Marketing, Optos North America. “Annual eye exams that include the optomap® Retinal Exam are vital for people of all ages in terms of doctors being able to confirm patient health or detecting and intervening in disease at an earlier stage.”
Note to Editors
Optos plc is a leading and rapidly growing medical technology company for the design, development, manufacturing and marketing of devices that image the retina, the light-sensitive area at the back of the eye. Optos' platform technology is the Panoramic200 Scanning Laser Ophthalmoscope device - known as the P200. In a quarter of a second, the P200 device produces a high resolution image of up to 200 degrees or approximately 82 percent of the retina in a single capture. The image - branded the optomap® Retinal Exam - provides eye care practitioners with clinically useful information that facilitates the early detection of disorders and diseases evidenced in the retina, such as glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy and age-related macular degeneration. Retinal imaging can also indicate evidence of non-eye or systemic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension and certain cancers. The Company has regulatory clearance (CE and FDA 510(k)) to market a second device - P200MA. Optos’ technology provides an unequalled combination of wide-field retinal imaging, speed and convenience for both practitioner and patient and can help save sight and save lives.
