Acceptance rate of optomap® plus Medical Retinal Exam Grows

MARLBOROUGH, MA, April 20th, 2006 – Optos, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Optos plc (LSE:OPTS), announced today that the acceptance rate among practitioners for its optomap® plus Medical Retinal Exam, a procedure for medically necessary disease management and follow-up, is growing.
Practitioners will continue to perform the core
optomap® Retinal Exam for wellness screening on patients presenting for comprehensive eye exams. However, for those patients with complaints that either may indicate pathology, have signs or symptoms of pathology or have a medical history of pathology, an
optomap®
plus Medical Retinal Exam is available.
“The optomap® plus Medical Retinal Exam allows a physician to tune the laser to look more specifically at the posterior pole or at the periphery when there is an area of concern, and provides irreplaceable information for following my patients over time,” said Richard Noyes, OD, Iowa Eye Care. “The ability to actually measure a lesion in pixels is significant in terms of making sure our patients have excellent outcomes.”
Practitioners are able to document that a specific capture and review process has been followed. Additionally the optomap® plus Medical Retinal Exam provides advanced annotation tools for objective assessment and identification. optomap® plus Medical Retinal Exam with interpretation and report may be eligible for medical reimbursement.
