Due to an internal promotion, Optos is now seeking a Global Product Director (Head of R&D).

The “upstream marketer” for the organization, you will hold strategic responsibility for R&D.  You will be responsible for developing and delivering existing and new value added-products and services, establishing Optos plc as leaders in primary eye care provision. Reporting to the CEO and through the management of your team, you will:    

• Establish a detailed product plan, anticipating both short and long-term market needs
• Establish product goals, strategies and tactics necessary to accomplish global strategic and financial objectives
• Provide management interface between technology and customers, partners, sales, marketing and customer support
• Evaluate the evolution of existing products and services and develop and manage new products through the product life-cycle
• Facilitate cross-functional product development process, working closely with other senior managers to ensure products are commercially profitable, timely and deliverable
• Build and manage strong and professional relationships with suppliers, partners and within the company
• Manage the launches of new products and services worldwide through operational and sales channels

You can demonstrate a multi-discipline engineering experience (electronics, Optics, software, mechanical), ideally (if even partly) acquired within a medical device our medical systems environment.  You have excellent practical experience of regulatory standards and practices, working knowledge of FDA & MDA systems and procedures, sound awareness of quality issues and expertise in program management processes.  Your expertise in full product life cycle over multiple products (concept through launch) and your managerial skills are key aspects of your current role.  Technically and market driven, you are a strong and influential communicator with a consultative approach and broad business acumen.
