Optos to Showcase V2® Vantage Operating Software

10/25/2007

MARLBOROUGH, MA, October 25, 2007 – Optos, a leading medical technology company for the design, development, manufacturing, and marketing of retinal imaging devices, will showcase its next generation operating software – V2® Vantage – at the American Academy of Optometry’s (AAO) Annual Meeting in Tampa, FL, October 24-27th, 2007, Booth #201.

“V2® Vantage is a key strategic element within our customer partnership agreements and promises to keep our customers on the leading edge of retinal imaging technology and improve the patient experience when having an eye examination,” said Tom Daniells, Vice President, Marketing, Optos North America.  “This reflects Optos’ ongoing commitment to helping its Partners deliver efficient and enhanced clinical care to patients.”

V2® Vantage is now available to all new Partners and continues to be rolled out to the Optos customer base.  The new software offers many new innovative advancements that will be beneficial to both the practitioner and patient.  The new features include: 3D Wrap™ Patient Orientation Tool, ResMax™ High Resolution Enhancement for Central Pole, Practice Performance Statistics, Targeted Ophthalmoscopy Mode, and more.

"I am excited about V2® Vantage,” said William Jones, OD, FAAO, Albuquerque, NM.  "The new ResMax™ feature has been particularly useful for my practice as it produces an image with resolution increased by approximately 10-15% which helps in getting better images of the optic disc and macula.  I have found that the increase in detail can be beneficial when I compare it to what I see with a direct view of the areas in question.  Recently, I used ReMax™ on an eye with non proliferative diabetic retinopathy and was able to detect microaneurysms next to the fovea.”

Clinical Improvements
• ResMax™ - available through the optomap® plus Medical Retinal Exam, ResMax™ scans the central pole of the retina, resulting in a 10-15% increase in resolution.
• Targeted Ophthalmoscopy Mode - simulates the view of the retina via a Binocular Indirect Opthalmoscope (BIO). This feature rotates the optomap® Retinal Exam image by 180 degrees from the current view to be in correct orientation with a BIO to better facilitate the synergistic use of these tools.
• Image Artifact Counting - available through the optomap® plus Medical Retinal Exam, this feature provides a count of pathology types identified on the optomap® Retinal Exam image, which can aid in the tracking of certain pathologies such as retinal hemorrhages presenting in diabetic retinopathy cases.

Patient Education
• 3D Wrap™ Patient Orientation Tool - this interactive 3-dimensional graphical model of the eye, including the projection of a patient’s own optomap® Retinal Exam image, helps educate patients on the health and anatomy of their retina.
• Patient Takeaway - a printed output that can be customized by defining top and
bottom banners so that a patient’s optomap® Retinal Exam image(s) can be easily printed.
• Eyemaginations Quick Links - available through a 90-day trial, practitioners can use Eyemaginations educational animations to educate patients on eye conditions such as glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and retinal detachment.

Practice Management Productivity
• Practice Performance Statistics - a usage viewer that shows how the optomap® Retinal Exam is performing in the practice and displays a progress bar and percentage measures of all procedures per month.  The viewer also shows a table of procedures that may be eligible for insurance reimbursement and new filters.

Note to Editors
Optos plc is a leading and rapidly growing medical technology company for the design, development, manufacturing and marketing of devices that image the retina, the light-sensitive area at the back of the eye.  Optos' platform technology is the Panoramic200 Scanning Laser Ophthalmoscope device - known as the P200.  In a quarter of a second the P200 device produces a high resolution image of up to 200 degrees or approximately 82 percent of the retina in a single capture.  The image - branded the optomap® Retinal Exam - provides eye care practitioners with clinically useful information that facilitates the early detection of disorders and diseases evidenced in the retina, such as glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy and age-related macular degeneration.

The Company has gained regulatory clearance (CE and FDA 510(k)) to market a second device - P200MA.  The P200MA is aimed at the specialist ophthalmic and medical as opposed to the primary care market.  It is designed to produce an angiographic retinal image called optomap® fa Medical Procedure by providing enhanced diagnostic, monitoring and treatment capabilities.  Retinal imaging can also indicate evidence of non-eye or systemic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension and certain cancers.  Optos’ technology provides an unequalled combination of wide-field retinal imaging, speed and convenience for both practitioner and patient and can help save sight and save lives.
