Optos Launches Real Images Program

10/18/2005

MARLBOROUGH, MA, October 18, 2005 – Ophthalmic retinal imaging leader Optos, Inc. is pleased to launch its Retinal Exam Advanced Learning (R.E.A.L.) Images Program as part of Optos’ commitment to offering continuing education and to promote shared learning across the optometric and ophthalmic industries. Optos is soliciting “real-life” Optomap Retinal Exam case studies where the use of the Optomap has made a difference in the clinical diagnosis of the patient and subsequent treatment.

“We are excited to offer an interactive forum for practitioners to share their experiences with the Optomap Retinal Exam and further examine unique cases surfaced with the Optomap,” said Ian Stevens, general manager of Optos North America. “This provides doctors the opportunity to learn from their peers about clinical conditions discovered and diagnosed with the aid of the Optomap Retinal Exam. It also helps Optos in building a more comprehensive Optomap Image Library to better educate our practitioners.”

Optos encourages doctors to submit case studies to the program for analysis and discussion and will feature them in monthly webinars and on the Optos website. One winner and five runner-up winners will be highlighted each month in the interactive learning format. Once each quarter, Optos will publish one of the featured case studies in a leading trade magazine.

“Increasing the visibility of Optomap case studies within the marketplace will only help to promote the technology and its clinical benefits,” said William Jones, OD. “This program facilitates that while encouraging collaboration between doctors to enhance their diagnostic abilities in an open forum.”

Since the Optomap Retinal Exam’s inception in 1999, almost 5 million exams have been conducted world wide, aiding in the detection and diagnosis of serious eye conditions such as diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachments, macular degeneration, and other sight or life threatening pathologies such as melanomas, hypertension and diabetes.

Optos is a leading provider of innovative solutions for comprehensive retinal evaluation, enabling practitioners to more effectively detect, monitor and promote patient health. The Optomap Retinal Exam is an integral first step in the clinical evaluation of every patient annually. It non-invasively generates an instantaneous, ultra-widefield digital scan of the retina, revealing important information for the comprehensive evaluation of systemic and ocular health. More than 1,900 practices across North America have installed the Optomap Retinal Exam and more than 10,000 Optomaps are performed daily.
