Overview

Optos is an innovative retinal imaging company with a vision to be recognised as a leading provider of devices and solutions to ophthalmic professionals for improved patient care.

Optos designs, develops, manufactures and markets retinal imaging devices that create optomap images.  The optomap is the only image that provides an ultra-wide 82% view of the retina.  A simple optomap scan is an important tool for the screening, early detection and diagnosis of eye problems such as retinal detachment, glaucoma, cataracts, retinal holes/retinal tears and age-related macular degeneration.  It can also indicate evidence of non-eye diseases such as diabetes, hypertension and certain cancers.  Many of these conditions can be seen in the periphery of the retina as well as in the central pole which is why widefield imaging is so important.  Optos believes that its technology provides an unequalled combination of widefield retinal imaging, speed and convenience for both the practitioner and patient.

Optos’ platform technology is the P200 series of Scanning Laser Ophthalmoscope devices – the P200, P200C and P200MA.  Each device produces high resolution images (optomaps) of up to 200 degrees or approximately 82% of the retina in a single capture which takes a quarter of a second.  The Optos devices are used by clinical optometrists as part of their comprehensive eye examinations and by ophthalmologists in the treatment and management of eye-related conditions.  The 200Dx and 200Tx devices offer innovative enhancements to the P200 and the P200MA devices respectively, delivering improved performance and functionality to meet the needs of optometrists and ophthalmologists.

Optos continues to broaden its product range and support its customers by way of acquisitions and expansion of its distribution network to support future growth into new and existing geographies.

Approximately 4,000 devices have been installed worldwide with the majority in North America, with an increasing presence in the EU and other overseas markets.  As at March 2011, over 29 million optomap exams have been undertaken.  Optos’ business model allows flexible options for new and existing customers ranging from capital sales, fixed rental payments, longer-term contracts and rental contracts offering the customer the right to buy the device at pre-determined times and prices.
