Early age-related macular degeneration case study

A 58-year-old female presented for her annual eye exam and was completely asymptomatic. Her optomap image, shown here, shows early signs of macular degeneration with drusen.

With early detection there are ways to arrest age related macular degeneration, depending on the type and the degree of the condition such as nutritional supplementation and laser treatment of choroidal neovascularization. This patient began high dose nutritional supplements and will be monitored yearly.
