Protect Your Family's Vision

We all want to protect our eyesight and overall health for ourselves and our families - that is why regular eye exams are important. These can give you peace of mind that your eyes are healthy and can also help protect against many eye conditions and diseases. If detected early enough, a whole range of eye problems can be treated successfully without sight loss. In addition, many vision problems begin at an early age, so it's important for children to receive proper eye care from the time they are infants.

optomap Retinal Exam: Early detection of eye disease

The optomap Retinal Exam is used by your eye care practitioner to see as much of the retina (the back of the eye) as possible. Eye exams generally include a look at the front of the eye as well as any changes to your glasses or contact lens prescription. However, a thorough screening of the retina is essential to check that your eye is healthy.

A retinal exam can help with the early detection of eye conditions, such as glaucoma and macular degeneration as well as other diseases like diabetes, hypertension and risk of stroke. The exam is quick, painless, and does not require dilation drops.

The optomap story: In 1990, 5 year old Leif Anderson went blind in one eye due to an undiagnosed retinal detachment. He was getting regular eye exams, but conventional tests at the time made a thorough examination difficult. Distressed by the diagnostic methods available, Leif’s father, Douglas, designed the optomap Retinal Exam. Click here to read more patient stories about this life-changing diagnostic exam.
