Retinal detachment case study

71 year old woman who presented with a retinal detachment and still quite good vision (20/25).

As the macula seemed to be not detached, I chose to do buckling surgery associated with a gas injection and subretinal liquid drainage. The second image must be one week after surgery, the gas bubble is clearly seen and there is a small amount of subretinal hemorrhage due to the drainage of the subretinal fluid. A persistent shallow detachment is also visible. After 4 weeks, the gas bubble has become much smaller and the subretinal blood has been transformed into fibrin (yellow dot). The interesting fact about this case is the visualization of the persistent sub retinal fluid even after 4 weeks although on clinical examination, the retina seems to be attached.
