This is the first in what may become a continuing series of pieces by Douglas Anderson. We hope you will find his observations informative; they may also occasionally be controversial, but hopefully always interesting and readable. On this first occasion we have tasked him to compare his life as an explorer with his life as the inventor of an imaging technology that by its nature discovers places that are difficult to see or in some cases have never been seen before.
