07.02.2006

Marlborough, MA, February 7, 2006 – Optos, Inc. today announced its 2000th North American customer to install its platform Panoramic200 (P200) retinal imaging device which produces the Optomap® Retinal Exam – Focus Eyecare Center in Washington, DC. Optos is a leading medical technology company for the design, development manufacture and marketing of retinal imaging devices.

“It gives us great pleasure to be the 2000th customer in North America to provide this amazing diagnostic tool to our patients,” said Dr. Patricia Shustock, partner at Focus Eyecare Center. “The Optomap Retinal Exam has clinically enhanced the level of care my partners, Dr. David Domnitch and Dr. Julia Lee, and I provide. It aids us in accurately evaluating the health of our patients’ retinas. In addition, it has been a valuable educational tool for patients. They are excited to be able to see their retinas to better understand their ocular health.”

The Optomap Retinal Exam provides optometrists and ophthalmologists with clinically useful information that facilitates the early detection of eye and non-eye related diseases that may first appear in the retina.

“Wellness screening continues to grow in importance throughout North America, and we believe that the addition of our 2000th customer in this market serves to verify the contribution optomap® is making in the preventative eye and general heath care arenas,” said Ian Stevens, general manager of Optos North America. “We are extremely pleased that acceptance rates of our technology and retinal image product are trending upwards, and that the optomap® provides doctors with enhanced diagnostic support in detecting both ocular and systemic conditions.”

Optos is a leading medical technology company for the design, development, manufacturing and marketing of retinal imaging devices. Retinal imaging is an important tool for the screening and diagnosis of eye conditions such as retinal detachment and age-related macular degeneration and can also indicate evidence of non-eye diseases such as diabetes, hypertension and certain cancers. Optos’ platform technology is the Panoramic200 Scanning Laser Ophthalmoscope device, the P200. The P200 produces a high resolution image – optomap® – of up to 200 degrees or approximately 82 percent of the retina in a single capture in a quarter of a second. Optos’ technology provides an unequalled combination of wide-field retinal imaging, speed and convenience for both the practitioner and patient.

Optos is headquartered in Dunfermline, Scotland, and has operations in the United States, Canada, Germany and the United Kingdom. As at 30 September 2005 Optos had an installed base of 2,009 P200 devices, an increase of 47 percent over the previous year, and through the period ended 30 December 2005 approximately 6 million optomap® retinal exams had been performed in these markets.
